Paul Butterworth is one of Australia’s most experienced Visual Effects Supervisors and Matte Painters, directing the effects on many of Australia’s CLIO award winning commercials in the late 90s. He trained in Design and Film in London and has worked for some of the hottest creative houses across Europe and the US in the fields of photography, illustration, animation, graphic design and commercial directing.

In 1998, Paul’s concept art and style-frame work successfully won the pitch for the visual effects work on the Sci-Fi Channel’s ‘Farscape’ series for Garner MacLennan Design.  Paul was the VFX Supervisor and VFX Art Director for the show delivering over 1300 high-quality shots in under eight months.  Subsequently, he and a small-team from the newly formed Fuel were invited to London by Brian Henson to work on the mini-series ‘Jack & The Beanstalk’ for Hallmark.

Currently Paul divides his time between directing commercial projects, sharing the responsibilities of managing FUELVFX, a state of the art vfx facility in Sydney, with his four founding partners and a looking after a busy family household. Recent projects include concept and matte painting work for Ironman2 and a new commercial for Myzone.

Paul is also an established director of television commercials and is represented by the international production company @Radical Media.
